Experience this vast circular geological feature that is ancient even by geological standards as it is the crater of a long extinct volcano and the result of eruptions millions of years ago. It is one of the largest volcanic complexes of its type in the world, the rare rock types and formations make it a unique geological feature. The 550km² park is home to the “Big 5” (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino). The Big 5 are joined by an abundance of antelope and rare species such as wild dog and cheetah. Over 300 recorded bird species make things interesting for avid birders. Our guides are always eager to share their knowledge of the environment and wildlife and will also happily assist you with your wildlife photography.
At 05h30 you will be picked up from your Hotel or Lodge in Johannesburg or Pretoria and we head out to the Pilanesberg National Park about 2 hours’ drive away. On route we stop for some coffee and a snack.
We spend the whole day (up to 17h00) in the park, exploring the various roads and tracks, hides and waterholes in search of wildlife and glorious vistas. Around noon we stop at the park centre for an a la carte lunch before continuing our safari.
Expect to be back at your lodging around 19h00.
